Located en route to Gangotri, Gangnani is known for its peaceful ambiance, making it an ideal spot to relax and acclimatize to the high-altitude environment.
On arrival, you’ll visit the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Uttarkashi, a revered spiritual site that offers a moment of tranquility and reflection. After this, head to Gangnani, where the famous Rishikund hot water spring awaits. This natural spring is renowned for its healing properties, providing a perfect opportunity for a soothing dip before the trek ahead. In the evening, explore the local market and temples, soaking in the spiritual energy and calm of this sacred area.
Key Highlights:
After a hearty breakfast, we begin our scenic drive towards Gangotri. The route takes us through the charming hill station of Harsil, located approximately 25 km before Gangotri. Harsil, known for its lush apple orchards and pristine beauty, offers a tranquil environment for a quick stop. Historically, it was an important stop on the old Silk Route, used for trade and matrimonial alliances between Tibet and India. This area is rich in culture and natural beauty, and the recently opened Gartang Gali adds an adventurous aspect to this picturesque location.
Once we've taken in the serenity and history of Harsil, we continue our drive towards the sacred Gangotri, one of the most revered pilgrimage sites in India. We arrive in the evening and check into our guest house or hotel. After settling in, we head to the Gangotri Temple, where we can offer our prayers and take a moment to absorb the spiritual energy of this sacred place.
Key Highlights:
Today, we begin our trek from Gangotri towards Bhojwasa, marking the start of our high-altitude adventure. Our trail follows the roaring Bhagirathi River, cutting through dense forests as we gradually ascend towards Chirbasa, the last point where trees are abundant. As we trek beyond Chirbasa, the landscape starts to transform into a barren, desolate terrain, often referred to by trekkers as resembling the Arctic Tundra. This stark, open wilderness contrasts with the dense forests we've left behind.
Continuing through the desolate landscape, we make our way to Bhojwasa, a serene campsite nestled near the river, surrounded by the majestic mountains. Bhojwasa also houses a small temple, adding a spiritual touch to this remote location. In the afternoon, you’ll have some free time to explore the area and take in the stunning views of the Bhagirathi Peaks. The evening promises a spectacular sunset over these towering peaks, offering the perfect end to a rewarding day of trekking.
Key Highlights:
On Day 4, wake up early to witness the breathtaking panoramic views of the Bhagirathi group of peaks, basking in the morning light. After a hearty breakfast, we begin our trek towards Gaumukh, the revered source of the Ganges River, standing at an elevation of 3,890 meters. The moment you arrive at Gaumukh, the sheer beauty and spiritual significance of the place become immediately apparent. We’ll have time to explore the area, take in the surroundings, and reflect on the importance of this sacred site.
Next, we continue our ascent towards Tapovan, an alpine meadow that’s considered one of the most beautiful and serene spots in the region. The path from Gaumukh to Tapovan is steep and physically demanding, but the reward is worth every step. As we climb higher, the views of the towering peaks of the Garhwal Himalayas, including Shivling and Bhagirathi, become more awe-inspiring, appearing closer and more majestic with every step. Tapovan, with its pristine meadows, offers a peaceful setting that has long attracted saints and Sadhus for meditation and spiritual retreats.
Key Highlights:
Today is a rest and acclimatization day, giving you the perfect opportunity to relax and soak in the incredible beauty of Tapovan. Surrounded by towering peaks, this is the perfect place to take a break and appreciate the majestic views. The Shivling Peak dominates the landscape, with its impressive presence in front of you. To the right, you can spot Meru, and slightly to the left, the sharp spires of Sumeru. The Bhagirathi peaks, including Bhagirathi III, are visible further to the left, offering a breathtaking panorama.
During the day, you can take a leisurely walk to the Meru Glacier, which is an awe-inspiring sight. While at the campsite, spend your time observing the unique flora and fauna, reflecting on your journey, and enjoying the serene environment. Tapovan is a sacred place, often visited by mountaineers and spiritual seekers alike, and you'll feel the tranquility and spiritual energy in the air. This rest day helps you acclimatize to the high altitude while taking in the beauty of one of the most picturesque spots in the Himalayas.
Key Highlights:
After breakfast, we begin our trek towards Nandanvan, with an exciting yet challenging journey ahead. The trail begins with a descent onto a glacier nestled between two mountain ranges. This glacier is often covered with rocky moraine from landslides, which makes walking a bit easier compared to a pure ice surface. However, it is essential to stay together as a group to ensure everyone follows the right path. Cairns (stacked rocks) will guide us, but we must remain vigilant to avoid veering off course.
Walking on the glacier can be tricky due to its slippery surface and the presence of large crevasses. A moment of inattention could be dangerous, so it's essential to stay focused and take deliberate steps. After about a kilometer, the trail begins to ascend steeply, leading us through large boulders and rocky terrain. Eventually, we reach the Nandanvan campsite, where we will enjoy a well-deserved dinner and an overnight stay, surrounded by the stunning Himalayan landscape.
Key Highlights:
After breakfast, we embark on a scenic trek following the Chaturangi Glacier trail that leads to the stunning Vasuki Tal, a serene lake located at the base of Mt. Satopanth and Vasuki Parbat. The trek begins with a gradual ascent along the ridge of the glacier, offering sweeping views of the surrounding landscape. As we pass by the Bhagirathi base camp, we continue towards a challenging section of the trek where the route descends onto the glacier itself.
This descent involves navigating steep, slippery terrain, with gradients reaching 70-80 degrees. The trek demands focus and careful footing as we make our way to the Vasuki Tal campsite. Upon arrival, we settle in and enjoy a peaceful evening in this breathtaking high-altitude setting. Dinner and an overnight stay at Vasuki Tal campsite provide the perfect opportunity to rest and soak in the grandeur of the surroundings.
Key Highlights:
Today, we continue our trek towards Suralaya Bamak, also known as Khara Pathar. After a hearty breakfast, we pack our lunches and set off for a day of exploration. The journey takes us across the rugged terrain of the high Himalayas, with the moraine path offering a challenging yet rewarding route.
The highlight of the day is the spectacular sight of Mount Satopanth, one of India’s tallest peaks at over 7,000 meters. As we trek closer, the majesty of Satopanth dominates the skyline, creating an awe-inspiring atmosphere. The sight of this towering peak adds a fulfilling sense of accomplishment to the trek. We reach our campsite on the moraine, where we’ll spend the night surrounded by the breathtaking Himalayan beauty. Dinner will be served at the campsite before we settle in for a restful evening beneath the stars.
Key Highlights:
After a hearty breakfast, we begin our trek towards the Sweta Glacier, which lies at an altitude of 5,500 meters. This day’s trek is relatively shorter in duration but no less remarkable, as it takes us through a rugged, high-altitude landscape.
We navigate through an area filled with large boulders and rocks, characteristic of the moraine terrain. This section of the trek offers a dramatic, otherworldly landscape, with the glacier looming ahead. Upon reaching Sweta Glacier, we set up camp in this stunning location. The surrounding moraine provides a unique camping experience, with towering peaks and glaciers forming a breathtaking backdrop to our evening. As always, we will enjoy dinner at the campsite, prepared by our team, before settling in for a night under the stars in one of the most remote and beautiful areas of the Himalayas.
Key Highlights:
On this day, we embark on a relatively short but exciting trek. After breakfast, we begin early to make the most of the day. Much of the trek will pass through moraine terrain, and the highlight of the journey is the Chaturangi Glacier, which is known for its striking colors—pink, yellow, brown, and green—making it one of the most visually unique features of this trek. The glacier is a crucial tributary feeding the Gangotri Glacier.
Continuing our journey, we move towards the outlet of the Suralaya Valley, beyond which lies the Khalipet Valley, surrounded by imposing peaks, including the unnamed 6,730-meter peak and the majestic Mana Parvat. As we ascend, the terrain becomes increasingly steep, and we cross the challenging Suralaya Glacier. The route takes us along the northern slopes of Chandra Parvat, adding to the day’s adventure.
We reach our camping spot at the left lateral moraine of the Sweta Glacier, where we will set up camp near its convergence with the Chaturangi Glacier. This is a perfect place to unwind after a challenging day and enjoy the majestic beauty of the surrounding peaks and glaciers.
Key Highlights:
This is one of the most significant and rewarding days of the trek as we journey towards Kalindi Khal (Kalindi Pass). We begin our day early and start the ascent towards the pass, standing at an imposing height of 5,947 meters (19,500 ft). The climb is strenuous and demands a steady pace, but the effort is well worth it.
Once we reach the pass, the effort spent on the ascent melts away in the face of the unparalleled beauty that surrounds us. The panoramic views from Kalindi Pass are breathtaking, offering vistas of some of the highest peaks of the Indian Himalayas, including Mt. Kamet, Mt. Mana, Chandra Parbat, and Vasuki Parbat. On clear days, you might even catch a glimpse of the Tibetan Plateau, stretching into the distance.
After taking in the incredible views, we begin the descent towards Raj Parav, where we’ll set up camp for the night. The feeling of accomplishment from conquering Kalindi Pass, combined with the mesmerizing scenery, will stay with you as you settle into your camp for a well-earned rest.
Key Highlights:
On this day, we begin our trek early in the morning as we make our way from Raj Parav to Arwatal, situated at an altitude of 3,910 meters. The journey takes us across rugged glacier terrain, requiring both endurance and caution. The trek involves navigating over glaciers and rocky paths, but the effort is rewarded as we approach the serene Arwa Tal.
Arwa Tal is a stunning, remote glacial lake nestled amidst towering peaks, offering a peaceful respite after the challenging day’s trek. The shimmering waters of the lake, surrounded by steep mountains, create a picturesque and tranquil environment, making it an ideal spot to unwind and reflect on the journey so far.
Upon reaching Arwatal, we set up camp for the night and enjoy a warm meal as the majestic surroundings provide the perfect backdrop to end the day.
Key Highlights:
After an early breakfast, we embark on a 7 km trek from Arwatal to Ghastoli, located at an altitude of 3,796 meters. This part of the journey takes us through an incredible variety of terrain, beginning with the stark, barren moraines of the higher altitudes. The route offers an intriguing contrast as the landscape slowly transitions into more lush, green meadows as we approach Ghastoli.
The trek is relatively short but scenic, with the stunning meadows of Ghastoli providing a visual treat after traversing the rougher moraine landscapes. This serene spot, surrounded by mountains, offers a peaceful and picturesque setting, making it a perfect place to relax and reflect on the journey.
Once we reach Ghastoli, we set up camp in the meadow and enjoy a well-deserved rest. The surrounding beauty, with lush greenery and panoramic views of the peaks, will provide an ideal setting for the evening.
Key Highlights:
On the final day of our trek, we begin with a short trek from Ghastoli to Mana Village, the last inhabited settlement before the Indo-Tibetan border, located at 3,200 meters. After this 3-hour trek, we will stop for a refreshing lunch in Mana Village, allowing time to relax and take in the surrounding beauty.
Post-lunch, we embark on a short 2 km drive to Badrinath, the holy town nestled on the banks of the Alaknanda River. Upon arrival, we check into our hotel and take a brief rest before heading to the Badrinath Temple. Located at an altitude of 3,130 meters, the temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is one of the most revered pilgrimage sites in India. The temple offers spectacular views, with the towering Neelkanth Peak as a backdrop, nestled between the Nar and Narayan mountain ranges.
After visiting the temple, we can relax in the Tapt Kund, a natural hot water sulphur spring near the temple, which is believed to have healing properties. The town of Badrinath and its sacred surroundings provide a perfect conclusion to this epic journey.
Key Highlights:
After a hearty breakfast at Badrinath, we begin our journey to Dehradun, a scenic drive that takes us along the Alaknanda River. As we descend, the landscape changes from the rugged, high-altitude terrain of Badrinath to the more lush and greener valleys at lower elevations.
The drive will take us through picturesque towns and villages, providing beautiful views of the river, as we pass by the confluence of Devprayag, where the Alaknanda River meets the Ganges. This point is not only a significant geographical feature but also a highly sacred spot in Hinduism.
As we approach Dehradun, the landscape transitions into the serene and tranquil environment of the Doon Valley, surrounded by the majestic Shivalik Hills.
Upon reaching Dehradun, we will set up camp for the night, where we can relax and reflect on the unforgettable journey through the higher Himalayan terrain. Dinner will be served at the campsite, where we’ll enjoy a final night under the stars.

The ideal time to embark on the Kashmir Trek is during the summer months, between May to October. During this time, the weather is more temperate, with clear skies and manageable snow conditions, offering the best views and trekking conditions.
While prior trekking experience is recommended, it is not mandatory. The trek involves some challenging terrains and high altitudes, so a reasonable level of fitness is essential. Those with little trekking experience should consider preparing with shorter treks before attempting this journey.
Accommodation throughout the trek is provided in camping tents (Alpine Tents) at each campsite, ensuring comfort and safety amidst the wilderness. At certain destinations like Gangotri and Badrinath, you will stay in guest houses or hotels.
To prepare for the Kashmir Trek, it’s important to engage in endurance training. Focus on cardiovascular exercises like running, hiking, and cycling, along with strength training to build leg muscles. You should also practice carrying a backpack and doing hikes at higher altitudes if possible.
Essential gear for the trek includes sturdy trekking boots, warm clothing (layers for varying temperatures), a backpack, sleeping bags, and trekking poles. It’s also crucial to carry sunscreen, water bottles, and a first aid kit. Specific gear will be provided during the trek, but it’s important to bring personal items based on the trek’s requirements.
