Your experience starts with an early morning drive from Rishikesh, the "Yoga Capital of the World," to the picturesque village of Joshimath. The journey is long but rewarding, as you pass through the picturesque Garhwal region, with its beautiful woods, river basins, and distant Himalayan peaks.
The trek takes you past the confluence of the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers in Devprayag, where you can see the sacred Ganges River being formed. As you climb higher in the mountains, the scenery changes to steeper slopes, deeper canyons, and more dramatic views. By late evening, you will arrive at Joshimath, a popular pilgrimage and trekking destination, and settle into your hotel for the night.
Additional Tips:
After breakfast, your trekking adventure officially begins. The trek begins in Joshimath and passes through deep oak, deodar, and rhododendron forests. The rise is mild, allowing hikers to acclimatize as they approach the picturesque Gulling meadow. Along the journey, you'll pass babbling mountain streams, clearings with stunning vistas of snow-capped peaks, and peaceful woodland walks.
As you travel deeper into the forest, the sheer magnificence of the Himalayas unfolds before you. By the time you get to Gulling, you will be surrounded by panoramic vistas of towering mountains, with Nanda Devi rising magnificently in the distance. Set up camp here and relax under the stars.
Additional Tips:
On Day 3, the walk continues deeper into the Himalayas. As you leave Gulling, the trail grows steeper, winding through more alpine forests and meadows. The walk provides exceptional vistas of prominent Himalayan peaks such as Nanda Devi, Dronagiri, and Hathi Godhi.
You'll arrive in Khullara, a pristine and remote campsite set in a winter paradise, with snow-covered fields reflecting the surrounding peaks. This is your overnight headquarters, providing a calm refuge from the world surrounded by nature's beauty.
Additional Tips:
Today is the highlight of your journey. Following an early breakfast, you'll start your climb to Kuari Pass. The trail progressively ascends, and when you approach the summit, a stunning view of the Himalayan peaks is revealed. Nanda Devi, Kamet, Trishul, Chaukhamba, and many others stand magnificently before you.
Kuari Pass is a well-known vantage point that provides an unrivaled vista of these snow-clad mountains. The sensation of standing amidst such magnificence is simply strange. After taking in the views and making memories, return to Khullara for another night of camping.
Additional Tips:
After breakfast, begin your descent back to Joshimath. The pathway retraces the previous journey, providing a new perspective on the scenery. The forests, meadows, and mountain views appear different as you descend, and you may notice wildlife or flora you missed previously.
Arrive in Joshimath in the afternoon for a celebratory lunch and a lovely hotel. This is an excellent time to unwind and share stories from your journey with other adventurers.
Additional Tips:
On the final day of your walk, you'll stop in Auli, one of India's most popular skiing resorts. During the winter, the meadows here are covered in snow, making it a perfect location for skiing or a cable car ride to see the surrounding peaks.
After some time in Auli, continue your journey back to Rishikesh. The descent from Joshimath provides a change in climate and landscape, moving from the high Himalayas to the lower highlands. As you approach Rishikesh, the trip will take you through picturesque villages, river valleys, and the holy Ganges.
