On Day 1, embark on a 10-hour drive from Kathgodam to Khati, a distance of approximately 290 kilometers. This scenic road trip takes you through the lush, green valleys of Kumaon and offers awe-inspiring views of the Himalayan ranges. Along the way, you’ll pass through small, picturesque towns and winding mountain roads that introduce you to the region’s natural beauty. Upon reaching Khati, the last inhabited village on the trek, you’ll be welcomed warmly by the locals. The evening is perfect for relaxing after the long journey. Take a leisurely stroll through the village, interact with the friendly locals, and enjoy the first glimpses of the towering peaks that lie ahead. The charming village is surrounded by dense forests, creating a peaceful atmosphere, making it an ideal place to prepare for the trek ahead.
On Day 2, you’ll set out on a 13-kilometer trek to Dwali, which will take you 7-8 hours. The trail begins with an ascent through lush forests filled with oak, pine, and rhododendron trees. As you trek along the meandering path, the soothing sounds of waterfalls and the Pindar River will accompany you, adding to the serenity of the journey. The trail alternates between ascents and descents, providing continuous views of the beautiful, unspoiled landscapes. You will be crossing over streams, lush meadows, and rolling hills, with occasional glimpses of wildlife. As you approach Dwali, a small village nestled in the valley, you will camp in a peaceful setting surrounded by dense forests. It’s an ideal place to relax and rejuvenate, soaking in the beauty of the natural surroundings.
On Day 3, the trek takes you to Phurkiya, which is situated at an altitude of 3,210 meters. This 5-kilometer trek might be shorter but is quite challenging due to the constant rise in elevation. You’ll cross steep slopes, gushing waterfalls, and meadows filled with wildflowers as you make your way up. The route offers incredible views of towering peaks like Nanda Khat and Nanda Devi East, with pristine, snow-covered mountains framing the horizon. The last section of the trek brings you to Phurkiya, which is located at the edge of a high-altitude meadow, where you will have the chance to marvel at the views. The evening will be spent camping under the stars, taking in the beauty of the surrounding peaks and valleys. Day 4 is the most exciting and rewarding day of the trek. You will set out early for the Pindari Glacier, also known as the "Zero Point," located at an altitude of 3,700 meters. The trek to the glacier covers 16 kilometers and will take you 6-7 hours. This challenging yet exhilarating hike brings you closer to some of the most majestic mountain ranges in the Himalayas, with panoramic views of Mt. Nanda Khat, Mt. Bauljuri, Changuch Peak, and the Pindari Glacier. Along the way, you will pass by the Pindari Baba Swami Dharmanand Ji’s Ashram, where you can take a moment to meditate and appreciate the solitude of the mountains. The view from Zero Point is mesmerizing, with snow-capped peaks and the magnificent Pindari Glacier stretching out before you. After soaking in the breathtaking views, you will retrace your steps back to Phurkiya for lunch and continue your journey back to Dwali, where you will spend the night in a guesthouse or camp.
On Day 5, the trek takes you on a more relaxed pace as you begin your descent. You’ll trek 18 kilometers back to Khati, taking around 7-8 hours to cover the distance. The return journey offers you a chance to witness the landscapes from a different perspective, allowing you to appreciate the beautiful forests, waterfalls, and meadows that you passed earlier. As you walk down the mountain, you’ll encounter the Pindar River again, which adds to the tranquility of the trail. Once you arrive in Khati, take the time to explore the village further and learn more about the culture and lifestyle of the locals. Khati offers a unique insight into the rural life of the Kumaon region. After spending the night here, you’ll rest and reflect on the incredible adventure.
On the final day of your trek, you will leave the peaceful mountains behind and embark on the long drive back to Kathgodam. The journey takes about 10 hours, covering 210 kilometers, and retraces the scenic route you took on your way in. As you leave the mountains, you’ll have time to reflect on the experiences and memories you’ve gathered during the trek. The clear skies, the towering peaks, the serene river views, and the vibrant local culture will stay with you long after you leave the mountains. The journey back offers one last opportunity to capture the grandeur of the Kumaon Himalayas as you approach Kathgodam, where the trek concludes.

The best time to do the Pindari Glacier Trek is from mid-April to November. During these months, the weather is comfortable with clear skies and pleasant temperatures, while the region avoids the monsoon season (July-August) due to the risk of landslides.
The Pindari Glacier Trek is a moderate trek. While suitable for trekkers with a good level of fitness, it involves high-altitude trekking and steep ascents. The trek requires endurance, especially on days 3 and 4.
Accommodation options include hotels, homestays, guest houses, and camping. Tents (twin-sharing) will be provided at higher altitudes, ensuring a comfortable stay with magnificent mountain views.
Essential items include layered clothing, trekking shoes, a backpack with rain cover, trekking poles, a warm sleeping bag, sunscreen, sunglasses, personal medication, and energy foods. A detailed packing list will be provided before the trek.
The trek begins at Khati village, accessible via road from Kathgodam. Kathgodam is well-connected by rail and road to major cities like Delhi and Dehradun, with the nearest airport being Pantnagar Airport, about 250 kilometers away. Transportation to and from Kathgodam is provided.
