Begin your adventure with an early morning departure from Dehradun, heading towards the small village of Barsu, the starting point of the trek. The drive takes you through the scenic landscapes of Uttarakhand, passing by river valleys, terraced fields, and charming villages. As you leave the bustling city behind, the air grows fresher, and the sight of the distant snow-capped mountains brings a sense of calm. En route, you'll pass through the spiritual town of Uttarkashi, often referred to as the gateway to the Gangotri region.
Upon reaching Barsu, you'll be welcomed by the local Garhwali culture and traditions. The village, nestled amidst lush greenery, provides a peaceful respite from city life. You’ll spend the night at a homestay or guesthouse, soaking in the tranquility of the Himalayas.
Highlights:
After an early breakfast, you’ll start your trek to Barnala Tal, a small, serene lake surrounded by thick forests. The trail is a gentle ascent, taking you through forests of oak, rhododendron, and pine. As you trek deeper into the forest, the snow begins to thicken underfoot, muffling the sounds of the forest and adding a magical touch to the landscape.
The path is marked by the occasional chirping of birds and the rustling of leaves, creating a peaceful atmosphere. Barnala Tal, hidden deep within the forest, is a tranquil spot that appears like a mirror, reflecting the snow-covered surroundings. It’s an ideal place to rest and absorb the natural beauty of the Himalayas.
At night, you’ll camp under the stars, surrounded by the silence of the mountains.
Highlights:
The trek to Dayara Bugyal begins with a steady climb. As you ascend higher, the forest gradually opens up to reveal the wide, open expanse of Dayara Bugyal, one of the largest high-altitude meadows in India. The meadows are completely covered in a blanket of snow during winter, making it look like a vast white desert. The highlight of the day is undoubtedly the panoramic views of the Himalayan ranges that appear as you approach the Bugyal. Peaks such as Bandarpoonch, Kalanag, and Draupadi Ka Danda dominate the skyline, their snow-capped summits glistening under the winter sun. After reaching the meadows, you’ll set up camp and spend the night amidst the snow-covered landscape.
Today is dedicated to exploring the vast meadows of Dayara Bugyal. The landscape is breathtaking, with undulating white hills stretching as far as the eye can see. You can trek to the nearby ridges for even more stunning views of the surrounding peaks, or simply wander through the snowfields, taking in the beauty and tranquility of this untouched paradise. For photographers, the interplay of light and shadows on the snow creates endless opportunities for capturing the perfect shot. You can also relax, meditate, or simply sit back and absorb the serenity of the place.
After breakfast, you’ll begin your descent from Dayara Bugyal back towards Barsu. The journey down offers a fresh perspective of the landscape, with the sun casting long shadows over the snow-covered hills and forests. As you retrace your steps through the familiar trails, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to take photos and soak in the last views of the majestic mountains before returning to the warmth of the village. The descent is easier and faster, allowing you to relax and enjoy the final leg of your adventure.
Your trek concludes with a scenic drive back to Dehradun. After breakfast, bid farewell to the village of Barsu and make your way back through the winding mountain roads. You can stop along the way for meals or to explore Uttarkashi before continuing the journey. Arriving in Dehradun by evening, you’ll have the option to either explore the city or head back to Haridwar for a spiritual ending to your trek.
